At Cornerstones Education, we believe the most powerful curriculum development happens through genuine collaboration with schools. We are delighted to be working in partnership with Dubai British School Jumeirah Park to pilot and shape the next stage of our primary STEAM curriculum.
This exciting collaboration brings together the school’s curriculum lead alongside mathematics and science subject leaders to explore how high-quality STEAM learning can strengthen creativity, enquiry, curriculum coherence and future-ready thinking within a British international school context.
Exploring the Links Between STEAM, Mathematics and Science
As part of this pilot, teachers are using STEAM projects on Maestro to explore meaningful curriculum connections between:
- STEAM learning
- White Rose Maths
- Primary science
- Engineering and design thinking
- Creativity, problem-solving and enquiry-led learning
The focus of the project is to ensure that mathematical understanding and scientific knowledge are not taught in isolation, but applied through engaging, real-world challenges that develop curiosity, collaboration and critical thinking.
The projects are also being carefully localised for the Dubai context, ensuring that learning is relevant, culturally responsive and connected to pupils lived experiences.
Collaborative Curriculum Development in Practice
Working closely with the curriculum lead, mathematics subject lead and science subject lead, the partnership includes:
- Online professional development and curriculum training sessions
- Collaborative planning and curriculum discussions
- Trial implementation of new STEAM projects
- Feedback on progression, sequencing and teachability
- Exploration of curriculum coherence across maths and science
- Support with localisation for Dubai-based learners
- Planned opportunities for face-to-face training and in-school support
This collaborative model ensures that curriculum development is informed by real classroom practice, allowing projects to evolve in response to teacher and pupil experience.
