This is where Cornerstones is strongest. Clear skills and knowledge frameworks cover every subject from nursery to Year 6, with logical, documented sequencing that is accessible to all staff. Every project is built on an evidence-informed pedagogy, giving teachers the structure they need to deliver with confidence and the flexibility to make the curriculum their own.

Formative assessment is built directly into the lessons being taught, enabling teachers to assess live, see previous assessments and adapt in the moment as well as in future planning. Retrieval is built into the sequenced lessons and knowledge organisers are designed to support children in embedding learning through a project and beyond.

Maestro’s monitoring functionality allows leaders to review any teacher’s planner or monitoring reports, track actual coverage against intended coverage, and verify that the intended curriculum is genuinely being taught and retained across the school. Subject leadership is supported through detailed teacher notes, resources and digital subject leadership tools built into the platform.

Cornerstones provides a fully resourced nursery and reception curriculum covering all areas of learning, with clear progression into Key Stage 1. Communication and language is a main driver throughout EYFS, with fully resourced termly pre-literacy phonics packs for nursery and story packs for reception.

Vocabulary is highlighted throughout, and enhanced provision guidance supports adults in modelling language, extending vocabulary and narrating purposefully during play and learning. Live, in the moment assessment within Maestro is linked directly to the school’s MIS data, supporting the swift identification of need and precise targeting of support. The skills and knowledge framework runs from nursery to Year 6, directly connecting the areas of learning to subject concepts and providing genuine coherence between EYFS and KS1.

Maestro tracks pupil progress across all subjects, not just core, giving leaders evidence of learning across the wider curriculum at every point in the year. Termly standardised tests in reading and maths are provided, alongside subject quizzes to support accurate teacher assessment in foundation subjects.

The platform monitors progress from any point in time, allowing leaders to evaluate individual pupil progress and identify where gaps exist. All reporting features include group filtering, so leaders can see clearly how pupils with SEND, disadvantaged pupils and other groups are achieving and where additional support is needed.

Maestro’s MIS integration means children with identified barriers to learning are automatically flagged, so they can be closely monitored and precisely supported. Creative subjects, including art and design and design technology, are fully resourced and treated as core to children’s development, not afterthoughts. The curriculum gives every child regular opportunities to discover what they are good at and to take pride in what they produce.

Attendance and behaviour are shaped by many factors beyond the curriculum — family circumstances, school culture, wider community pressures. Cornerstones supports the conditions in which children want to come to school. A curriculum that genuinely engages children, gives them creative ownership of their learning and builds strong relationships between teachers and pupils is one of the most effective long-term foundations for positive attendance and behaviour. Safeguarding is a whole-school responsibility that sits beyond the curriculum itself. Cornerstones supports the wider school culture through which safeguarding is embedded — through warm relationships, strong pastoral focus and a curriculum that gives every child a voice.
